MV Crested Eagle Trip

By: Jason Pullen and Amanda Pullen

Amanda found this post card from a trip the pullens took on 12 July 1952 (from post mark) and was sent from Winifred Pullen and the kids to Samuel Pullen

It's difficult to read, but we think it says:

"Dear Grandfer,

Lot's of love
from all the Pullens
at sea.
Love Rosie, Frank, Frankie,
Rolly, Ralph, Ivan, Diane
Win xxxxxx
xxxxxx"

The Card is of the MV Crested Eagle, a paddle steamer that was situated in Ramsgate from 1952 running local cruises.

If you're interesed in the boat, here's some more detail:

Comments:

Built as New Royal Lady, she was to take the place of Royal Lady for operation out of Scarborough. MV Crested Eagle had an operational speed of around 14 knots, which was perfectly satisfactory for her designed purpose. She was purchased by the General Steam Navigation Co Ltd in November 1947 for use in PLA dock cruises around London. She also operated trips from Tower Pier where she is seen here, to Gravesend and Southend Pier . In 1952 she was based at Ramsgate for local cruises. Later she operated from Gravesend to Southend and Clacton, going on charter to P&A Campbell in 1957 for trips from Eastbourne and Hastings on the South Coast. At the end of the charter Crested Eagle was sold in 1957 to Maltese owners and renamed Imperial Eagle, operating out of Gozo until her withdrawal in 1994. Her GSN Co nameplate is still in place, inside the ship, although she was last known lying derelict in Valetta Harbour. For a copy of a handbill advertising her PLA Dock Cruises.
