About:Samuel Pullen (his Grandather)
When: March 2002
"Grandad did quite a lot. He was in the army in India between the wars, and he had a really good time! He took part in a little known campaign and got a medal for it, I don’t remember the name of the campaign but I have the medal, as it was only a small battle not many were involved so it is probably quite rare.
The story I like the most though, is the tale of when he Grandad and uncle Frank came back from Dunkirk. All the troops seemed to have only just managed to get to England in only the clothes they stood up in and in some cases not even that; no weapons, no gear of any sort! However, our relatives managed to get ashore so loaded down with surveying gear they could hardly carry it also a suitcase full of B.E.F. money, they thought they had really cracked it, only to discover that of course as soon as the army came back to England that money was totally useless, I did actually see this suitcase at uncle Franks a couple of times, but what happened to it after that I have no idea."
