Greener Living: At Work [« homepage]
Although you might not always have control over what goes on in the office, you can still do little things here and there.
- Influence Collegues: Try and influence your collegues to recylce too (paper, printer cartridges etc), switch off the lights, switch off the A/C when not needed etc.
- Recycling: Always put your paper in the recycling bin. If there aren't any, try and get the office manager to install them. If not, collect the paper under your desk and take it home every now and then and put it in your own recycle bin.
- Commuting: Try and walk / cycle to work if possible. If it's too far, try and get the bus or train. If you have to drive, why not consider car-sharing and/or 'Park & Ride'. Also see the Travel page for more ideas.
- Use Handryers: This is a common question. Should I use the handryer or paper towels. The best thing to do is of course drip dry, but if this is not for you, always go for the handryer. More info can be found here and here. Finally, if you have to use paper towels, only use one - I manage and I have big hands!
- Lunch: Try and take your own lunch rather than buy lunch near your office. Generally there is lot's of packaging. Alos, you generally save money making your own lunch and can make sure it's exactly what you want.
- PC: If you work in an office, always complely turn off your PC each night - don't leave it on or in standby mode.
